| My family always had pets e.g. pet rabbits, guinea
pigs, hamsters, birds, pet goats and lambs. but the love of dogs was
uppermost. we had Cairn terriers and Rough collies and Shelties. Then I opened a Bed and Breakfast and this was the time I met a gentleman who resided with me when on business to Ireland. He had a most beautiful dog (Flatcoated retriever) who was excellent in field work, obedience and in the show ring. Harry introduced Andrew to Flatcoats leading us to obtaining Falco from Mrs, S. Derobbio and Phoenix friom Mr. T.G.Ford which are of Harry's dogs lines. My youngest son introduced us to the "Most beautiful dog in the world" i.e. Bernese Mountain Dogs". I was very fortunate to be put in touch with a wonderful kennel ANNEALDON owned by Donie and Anne Kelly, and so I got Flora from Mrs. S.Clarke We have st rived to continue Donie and Anne's aims to breed for excellence. Our aims in our two breeds is for longevity and good health. So we have all our dogs health checked by Hip and elbow scoring and the flatcoats also have eye tests. we also help in health studies. As none of our dogs have died yet we have not done any autopsies but we intend to do this when any of our dogs die. In our aim for excellence we became Accredited breeders with the kennel club London and are at the moment the only one in Ireland for our breeds. Being accredited breeders means we will not breed our bitches until all health tests are done and we will breed in accordance to what we have signed up for with the kennel club. THIS ALSO MEANS OUR YOUNG DOG BENSON CANNOT BE USED AT STUD UNTIL HIS HEALTH TESTS ARE DONE. THESE OF COURSE CANNOT BE DONE UNTIL HE IS OVER ONE YEAR OLD. We both have done seminars on conformation and movement, stewarding, judging, Tellington Touch Etc. and are members of different dog clubs. Our dogs are house dogs and our puppies are all reared in the house. The flatcoats love to go to gundog training classes and Andrew throws dummies for them. Andrew's aim is to make them up to be full champions (i.e. working as well as show champions) Our Bernese do carting displays. They just love showing off to the general public how they were bred for carting to bring the farmer's produce to market in their homeland of the Switzerland. If anyone would like us to put on a display for charity work we would happily love to help and so would the dogs. We are the first Bernese in Ireland to do the working test. A WORKING DOG IS A HAPPY DOG. We now have a small group of carting Bernese in Ireland called THE BERNESE CARTING GROUP IRELAND. Our dogs also love agility work. so we are also doing agility and obedience work with them. As you can see our dogs have many things to occupy them and keep them and us healthy. |
